SAGINAW CO., Mich. (WNEM) – A new push to close the gap in recovery care is rolling out across parts of Mid-Michigan.
It is focused on something that is often overlooked – how people actually get to the help they need.
“We want people in the rural areas to understand that recovery exists outside their little slice of the cornfield,” said Tracy Madden, program manager at Peer 360 Recovery Alliance.
Miles of road and no transportation can stand between someone and recovery from addiction. A new program is stepping in, offering rides to people in recovery across Huron, Tuscola, and Saginaw counties.
“We can help our people,” said Madden. “We can show them that there’s a better way of life out there.”
It is called Rural Recovery Transportation, and it covers meetings, medication-assisted treatment services, and even gas cards in some cases.
“Being able to pick that person up and get them to a meeting or get them to an event, where they can see other people having fun, where they can connect,” said Madden. “That can be life-saving.”
What looks like a short trip on a map can mean no ride at all. This program closes the gap.
